Manufacturing America: Building the Future, One Kid at a Time
“America is the only country that is constantly being reborn”
-William S. Knudsen

Always being reborn, after 250 YEARS, American manufacturing is being on the rise again! Reshoring efforts, advancing technologies, and an increased emphasis on domestic supply chains are creating exciting opportunities. For kids, this means stories of innovation right here at home: factories producing everything from vehicles and spaceships to medical devices and the latest toys.
Our book Blake Prepares for Manufacturing brings these concepts to life for young readers. Through Blake’s adventures, children learn foundational skills like measurement, tool identification, and time management in relatable, hands-on scenarios. Whether it’s wrestling with numbers on the mat or measuring parts on the shop floor, the book shows how everyday curiosity connects to real-world manufacturing success.
Beyond reading, getting kids involved in manufacturing doesn’t require a full factory tour (though those are fantastic!). Start right now with these ideas:
• Projects: Take apart an old appliance and identify the tools and parts. Talk about the components are manufactured in American plants.
• Experiences: Have a “manufacturing day” where kids measure ingredients for baking, distances for backyard games, or weights of household items. Tie it back to U.S. manufacturing.
• Conversation: Talk to those who work in manufacturing about the products they build, and involve your kids! Allow kids to ask; “How is that made?”
American manufacturing’s comeback is real, and our kids are poised to lead it. By reading our books, and experiencing the industry, we’re , and talking with those in it, we are not just preparing them for jobs—we’re building the future, one kid at a time.
Keep making,
Joe & Amanda
